Allotments Liaison Officer, Birmingham City Council

Eddie Campbell's tireless work to promote the health benefits of allotment gardening has seen him reach a wide range of communities across the city. His natural enthusiasm and outgoing personality have inspired many residents to take-up this rewarding pastime. Birmingham is proud to be a multicultural city and by developing the 'Changing Taste of Food' project as part of Black History Month, Eddie's work celebrates the traditional food of Black and Minority Ethnic communities, encouraging allotment plot-holders to grow different foods. His dedication has resulted in an upsurge in allotment tenancies from women and people from BME backgrounds. By taking an ever more creative approach, including producing DVDs, appearing on his own radio show and regular TV appearances, he continues to engage many hard to reach groups. His work has deservedly attracted regional and national media attention and he works with a range of partners, including Premier League football club Aston Villa.
