Customer Services Team
London Borough of Sutton
Sutton's Customer Service team has been working to deliver sustainable employment opportunities for people with physical and learning disabilities. Traditional council customer services jobs have been tailored so that duties that are suited to people that have been unable to access work because of their disabilities. Many of those placed through the scheme now have permanent jobs within the council's reception and call centre. This scheme shows that championing diversity is no barrier to service excellence, with Sutton's customer services consistently rated as one of the best in London. The team's work has significantly improved self confidence amongst the disabled staff and the whole team, which is reflected in the service to customers, particularly those who also suffer with disabilities.
