Hugh Gilliland
Enforcement Warden, Inverclyde Council
Hugh Gilliland, an Enforcement Warden with Inverclyde Council, displayed exceptional bravery when he intervened to save a Police Officer from a life threatening situation. Hugh and his colleague Christopher Thompson were on duty with two Police Officers when they witnessed two young men becoming aggressive with each other. The Police Officers approached the two men and a struggle ensued in which one of the men smashed a glass bottle off a wall, and repeatedly tried to stab a female Police Officer in the stomach with the neck of the bottle. Hugh immediately assisted the Police Officers and was stabbed in the wrist. He suffered a 3cm wound and lost a lot of blood but still managed to assist the Police in overpowering the young man.
